Boys and Girls Clubs across Southcentral Alaska remain closed as the nonprofit grapples with financial challenges.

All locations under the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska shut their doors last week. Leaders confirm that 87 of the organization’s 144 employees have been furloughed.

CEO Susan Anderson told Your Alaska Link the closures are temporary and emphasized the organization is working quickly to reopen.

“We know there's a lot of community need right now across the state. We completely understand that we would not be asking for people's assistance unless it was critical,” Anderson said.
