In Valdez, a tense situation unfolded Thursday afternoon after old dynamite was discovered inside a home on Dadina Street.
Police say around 3:00 p.m., a person cleaning out the property found the explosives and called for help. The Valdez Police Department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, along with state and federal EOD units, responded to the scene.
Investigators determined the dynamite was unstable and unsafe to move, prompting nearby residents to evacuate temporarily as a precaution. Fire and EMS crews were also on standby.
By 6:00 p.m., officials say the dynamite was safely disposed of, and residents were cleared to return home.
The City of Valdez thanked all agencies involved for their quick and coordinated response.
