TALLADEGA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Alabama state health officer Dr. Scott Harris says he and other health care workers are concerned that people in the state could soon lose their SNAP benefits .

Dr. Harris took part in a health fair in his hometown of Talladega Thursday morning and spoke about the challenges of food benefits and public health in Alabama, saying health fairs are a great resource right now.

“It’s just a wonderful way to get the community energized and get involved and learning about ways to keep yourself safe and healthy,” said Harris.

With close to 800,000 Alabamians depending on SNAP benefits for food, Dr. Harris says he’s concerned they’ll lose that assistance come Nov. 1 .
