The Coalition has held a major partyroom meeting to thrash out its stance on net zero emissions, with the shadow energy minister conceding some MPs will have to "give and take".
Speaking to Sky News after the Coalition meeting on Friday, shadow energy minister Dan Tehan refused to give a concrete date on when a final decision would be made but hinted that net zero would require a major overhaul.
Despite a complete consensus being unlikely, Mr Tehan remained positive that the Coalition was largely united on "many things".
"The key takeout for me is that how many things that we're united on," he said.
Mr Tehan said the regional and city MPs were able to voice their views on energy policy and rejected that the opposing outlooks were irreconcilable.
