The Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project reached a major milestone Thursday.

The last segments between the north and south ends of the bridge have met, with all steel, deck panels, and stay cable installation finished.

This means workers can now move on to putting the final touches on the bridge, which connects Surrey with New Westminster.

The bridge, coming in at a cost of $1.6 billion, is set to be operational by Christmas.

The Ministry of Transportation says the new Pattullo will have wider lanes than its predecessor, separated by a centre median barrier, as well as wider walking and cycling paths in both directions.
