ESKO — Moose Lake-Willow River’s dominance continues.
The top-seeded Rebels defeated the No. 2-seeded Aitkin Gobblers 28-0 in the Section 7-2A Final Thursday, Oct. 30, to advance to state for the 18th time in 19 seasons.
MLWR’s Parker Samarzia ran in a 45-yard touchdown run for the last score with 6:52 left. On the play, Aitkin’s Nolan Dotzler was injured and needed a stretcher to leave the field.
“We think everything is going to be OK and everything was precautionary,” Aitkin head coach Alan Hills said. “It was tough. When you see a friend and teammate down like that, it’s tough to get back out there and play a football game. We played well after that, but to go back out there and battle shows the type of grit that this team has.”
