A man was fatally shot by Seattle police late Thursday afternoon, after he had been seen walking with an ax in Sodo, according to police.

Few details were immediately available on the shooting, which occurred near Fourth Avenue South and South Holgate Street. More than one officer fired at the man after police tried a non-lethal method to subdue him, Chief Shon Barnes told KING 5 in an on-camera interview.

The city’s 911 log shows crews were dispatched at 4:45 p.m.

A Seattle Police Department public information officer at the scene declined to comment.

Around 7 p.m., a few remaining officers had the street blocked off while putting evidence into a van.
