DES MOINES, Iowa -- Due to Affordable Care Act tax credits expiring, healthcare premiums are expected to rise substantially.

Mazie Stilwell, the Executive Director of Progress Iowa, said that the rising premiums are related to the government shutdown.

"So premiums are increasing because of the tax credits. The health care tax credits that families have relied on are going away. And that is because Republicans in Congress are refusing to act. So what the, the kind of crux of the shutdown right now is over health care costs. And what we see is that it is these health care tax credits that millions of Americans rely on are on the line," Stilwell said.

Stilwell said that the increased costs will leave some Iowans without insurance.
