BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge pastor who dedicated his life to ministering to the homeless has passed away, but those who knew him say his legacy will continue to shine.

Pastor Joe Moore, known for preaching the word of God in an open parking lot rather than a traditional church, died this week at 77 years old.

“He had a way of preaching where anyone who could hear him could understand what he was saying,” Ray Davis recalled.

Moore first gained attention in 2011 when he was featured in WAFB’s Hand It On series. What made his ministry unique was how he met people where they were. His church was an open lot, and his congregation was made up of the homeless.
