ORONO -- Maine Women's Soccer beat rival UNH 2-1 on Thursday night to punch their ticket to the America East playoffs.
Going into the game, Maine could secure a home playoff game with a win, secure a playoff birth with a draw, or miss the playoffs completely with a loss.
In the middle of the first half, Rockport's Britta Denny sent in a cross, forcing a UNH defender to try and clear, but she kicked it into her own net allowing Maine to take a 1-0 lead.
Maine keeper Elna Barenburg made multiple great saves in the second half to keep the lead for Maine.'
Maine will host UNH again on Sunday at noon for the America East quarterfinals.
