SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Head Start programs across the country are facing potential closures due to a looming government shutdown, threatening education and support for thousands of children.
More than 140 Head Start programs nationwide may be forced to close without crucial funding, impacting around 65,000 children. Izzi Early Education in South San Francisco relies on federal funding for 60% of its budget, highlighting the vulnerability of these programs.
"We’re talking about our most vulnerable community members," said U.S. Representative Kevin Mullin during a press conference. "They are the infants and toddlers whose families couldn’t afford childcare, whose parents wouldn’t be able to work without Head Start."
