PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Local governments and nonprofits are offering help to Oregonians impacted by the expected suspension of SNAP benefits on Nov. 1 during the government shutdown.
On Wednesday, Governor Tina Kotek declared a statewide food emergency and directed $5 million to Oregon food banks, while also calling on the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to release emergency contingency funds for SNAP.
Government officials at the city and county level also began discussing plans and offering assistance on Thursday to those impacted.
Clackamas County Commissioners declared a state of emergency at the county level on Thursday, and authorized $100,000 in general fund contingency dollars to be used if needed.
Commissioners also voted to email the State of Oregon and Kotek’s office
