PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Enrollment begins Saturday for people buying health insurance through the Affordable Care Act marketplace, but enhanced premium subsidies that help many afford coverage are set to expire at the end of the year without congressional action.

About 24 million people nationwide are covered by the Affordable Care Act, which offers premium tax credits to people below certain income thresholds. In Oregon, close to 140,000 people have been benefiting from these subsidies.

Amanda Prager was able to get health insurance last year through premium subsidies and help from a nonprofit. But she recently received word that subsidies are likely expiring and premiums are going up.
