NSW Health Minister Ryan Park has said he'd still like trialled body-worn cameras to be used by hospital security guards beyond the current trial period, saying that there was never any excuse for people who want to use hospital staff as "punching bags".
"Yeah, I want the cameras still to be worn," Mr Park told reporters on Wednesday, "but by no means do I think they are a silver bullet."
The use of body-worn cameras was thrown into the spotlight earlier this week after the Leade r revealed a Tamworth man will face sentencing for assaulting and injuring four front-line health workers while he was in Tamworth hospital.
The 27-year-old lashed out at hospital workers on the night of September 22, which triggered a lockdown of the hospital's emergency department.
