LA VERNE — Any questions about Charter Oak’s toughness or physicality was answered in a thoroughly dominant defensive performance, beating Bonita 23-6 on Thursday to clinch the Sierra League title.
Chargers senior defensive lineman Tristan Taylor was one of the big reasons, stuffing the Bearcats’ running game over and over, and delivering a ferocious sack on Bonita quarterback Travis Lippert.
Bonita scored its only touchdown on a 95-yard kickoff return by Jacob Maddox, otherwise the Chargers’ would have posted a shutout. Lippert completed just 3-of-11 passes for 13 yards, and Bearcats running backs Drew Apodaca and Sebastian Vasquez combined for just 40 yards.
Taylor said they were determined to not let the Bearcats breathe.
