Kolkata: As if the recurrent service and schedule-related issues and the Ahmedabad crash were not enough, Air India now seems to have moved into a pocket of financial crisis and is looking for Rs 10,000 crore from the Tatas and Singapore Airlines, the two shareholders, reports suggest. The reasons for the latest trouble seems to be the plane crash in June and airspace restrictions by Pakistan which has compelled flights to take detours.
The Tatas took control of Air India in 2022 with a stake of 74.9%. The rest is controlled by Singapore Airlines. The company needs the money reportedly to overhaul Air India’s systems and services besides developing in-house engineering and maintenance operations. The amount that could come to the beleaguered management could be proportional to the stakes
