Authorities in Newark are investigating a shooting that left a man seriously injured in the city’s North Ward Thursday afternoon.

According to police, several rounds of gunfire erupted around 3 p.m. near the intersection of Mount Prospect Avenue and Second Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound near a small supermarket in the area.

The victim was transported to University Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

Members of Newark’s Shooting Response Team responded to the scene to assist in the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.

No other injuries were reported, and the suspect remains at large.
