New Delhi: The All India Football Federation plans to kick-off the 2025-26 Indian Women’s League on December 20, having earlier announced to begin it in September.

The AIFF convened a meeting with IWL clubs on Thursday and put forward a fresh date for the eight-team competition, to be held in two phases to accommodate the senior national team’s preparations for the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, which will be staged in Australia from March 1 to 21.

On July 11, the AIFF had announced that the competition’s ninth edition, comprising eight teams with 14 matches for each side, will begin in September 2025 and stretch till January 2026, much earlier than the January-April window in which its 2024-25 season was conducted.
