BELCOURT, N.D. – After Spirit Lake Nation declared a state of emergency regarding the impending stoppage of food stamp benefits — known as SNAP — due to the federal government shutdown, the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa has also released its Federal Shutdown Emergency Services plan.
The tribal government’s plan aims to assure community members that they will continue to have access to food, heating and critical support during the federal government shutdown. The tribe has approved a budget to support the services.
“This financial commitment reflects the tribe’s proactive approach to maintaining stability and ensuring that essential needs continue to be met despite external disruptions,” it stated in a release.
