GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer announced Friday it will donate $4 million to food banks and pantries across its six-state footprint through the company's Simply Give hunger relief program.
The Grand Rapids-based retailer will distribute a portion of the funding to eight major food banks with infrastructure capable of serving large numbers of people in need.
Recipients include Dare to Care Foodbank in Louisville, Kentucky; Feeding America East Wisconsin; Feeding America West Michigan; Gleaners Community Foodbank of Southeast Michigan; Gleaners Community Foodbank of Indiana; Greater Chicago Food Depository; Greater Cleveland Food Bank; and the Mid-Ohio Food Collective.
This comes as the federal government notified Michigan and other states that SNAP benefits would be paused in November.
