A violent career criminal who was born in Wilkes-Barre in 1938 was identified as the suspect in the rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl inside a church in Bucks County 63 years ago.
Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn this week announced a grand jury investigation identified William Frederick Schrader as the person who raped and killed Carol Ann Dougherty inside St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church in Bristol on Oct. 22, 1962. Schorn announced the grand jury findings on Wednesday.
According to the grand jury 53 page report, Dougherty was riding a bicycle and stopped at the church to pray before returning books at a library when Schrader sexually assaulted and killed the girl. At the time in 1962, Schrader lived less than two blocks away from the church as a witness reportedly saw
