NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A $230 million settlement has been approved by victims of clergy sex abuse with the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
Hundreds of victims approved the settlement with a near unanimous vote, accepted by over 99% of the victims and their creditors. A hearing to finalize the agreement is set for next month.
Archbishop Gregory Aymond released the following statement:
"We are grateful to the survivors who have voted in favor of moving forward with this plan and continue to pray that both the monetary settlement and the nonmonetary provisions provide each of them some path towards their healing and reconciliation."
