DETROIT -- Ace left-hander Tarik Skubal has been named the 2025 Tiger of the Year by the Detroit chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America, earning the honor for the second consecutive season.
It could be a preview of even bigger honors ahead. Skubal is expected to win his second consecutive Cy Young Award when results are announced on Nov. 12.
Skubal, who turns 29 next month, went 13-6 with an AL-best 2.21 ERA. He struck out a career-high 241 batters in 195 1/3 innings, also a career high, then added three dominant playoff starts in October.
He’s the first back-to-back winner since infielder Jeimer Candelario (2020–21) and the first pitcher to do so since Denny McLain (1968–69).
