ST. PAUL — Two Minnesota Senate seats up for grabs on Tuesday, Nov. 4, could swing control of the currently DFL-led chamber.
The two seats were left open following the resignation of former Sen. Nicole Mitchell of Woodbury on July 25 and the unexpected death of Sen. Bruce Anderson of Buffalo on July 21. If Republicans retain Anderson’s seat and flip Mitchell’s, the chamber could flip to a 34-33 Republican majority, which currently stands at a 33-32 DFL majority. If Democrats win just one seat, the DFL would uphold its majority.
Neither of the seats is likely to be a swing seat, as Mitchell, DFL, won her seat in 2022 with 59% of the vote and Anderson, Republican, won his seat in 2022 with 68% of the vote, according to the Secretary of State’s Office.
