The U.S. Senate voted 52-45 on Wednesday to approve a resolution, sponsored by Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan, under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) that would nullify the Biden administration’s 2022 Integrated Activity Plan (IAP) for the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPR-A).

The 2022 plan had restricted oil and gas leasing in portions of the reserve, replacing a 2020 plan from the previous administration.

Supporters of the resolution argued that the plan limited access to the reserve and conflicted with congressional guidance, while opponents have previously cited environmental and conservation concerns.

The House of Representatives will consider a companion resolution introduced by Congressman Nick Begich.
