Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Peter Micciche is urging homeowners to reapply for the borough’s increased $75,000 residential (homeowner) property tax exemption, saying the former $50,000 exemption expires Dec. 31 and does not roll over automatically.

Speaking on KSRM, Micciche said the online application is open now through the Assessing Department and the deadline to file is February 16. The borough will mail reminders and share QR codes on official channels, but he cautioned residents to “open your mail” and not miss the window.

“The old $50,000 exemption goes away after December 31. You must reapply for the new $75,000,” Micciche said. “We’re giving about three and a half months’ notice. Apply now.”
