Crews with Homer Electric Association (HEA) worked through the night restoring power to thousands of members after powerful Halloween winds and rain caused widespread outages across the Kenai Peninsula.

As of early Friday morning, roughly 2,320 members remain without power in the greater Kenai, Soldotna, and Nikiski areas. HEA reports that a large number of smaller, separate outages are still active as crews continue repairs.

Earlier in the night, around 7,500 members had their power restored after workers isolated one of the largest problem areas between Anchor Point and Kasilof. At the peak of the storm late Thursday, nearly 15,000 members were affected as strong winds brought down trees and power lines from Nikiski to Anchor Point.
