Voters living in south Lane County, including Cottage Grove, Creswell and surrounding areas, will decide Nov. 4 whether to implement a new five-year option levy that would strengthen emergency response services.

The South Lane Fire and Rescue District board is proposing a 94-cent tax per $1,000 of assessed property value for five years beginning in the 2026-2027 fiscal year.

The new levy would replace the current levy, first passed in 2012 and last renewed in 2022, which taxes property owners 47 cents per $1,000.

Assessed value is lower than market value. An average home in Cottage Grove is assessed at $180,671 and would pay $169.83 per year for the levy, while an average Creswell home assessed at $216,653 would pay $203.65 per year. This is up from $84.92 and $101.83, respectively, un
