LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Nevada Day is being observed on its actual birthday of October 31 this year, making Friday a state holiday. It won't happen again until 2031.
All state, county, and city offices are closed, as well as schools, to observe the day, Oct. 31, 1864, when Nevada was admitted to the union, becoming the 36th state. Because it was admitted during the Civil War, it had the motto "Battle Born."
