Gov. Kim Reynolds is calling on Iowans to donate to local food banks with federal food assistance funding set to lapse Nov. 1 because of the government shutdown.
"By making a cash donation to the food bank that serves your area, you can help a family near you keep food on the table," Reynolds said at a news conference Oct. 31. "Better yet, your donation will go twice as far because the state will match it dollar for dollar."
Reynolds announced that the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services will match all cash donations to Iowa's six regional food banks up to $1 million , beginning on Nov. 1, to help meet the food banks' need.
"This is an opportunity for all of us, together as Iowans, to care for our neighbors in need," Reynolds said.
