LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Jack-O-Lanterns are a staple of spooky season , but are often no longer needed beyond Halloween.
But there are some ways in which you can environmentally repurpose those pumpkins after the holiday.
“Here at the MSU Recycling Center, November 1st through 15th, we are here to help people get rid of their pumpkins,” says Chris Hewitt, the Operations Coordinator for Michigan State University’s Recycling Center and Surplus Store.
“We’re here to help compost them.”
Starting with November’s first weekend, Mid-Michigan residents can drop off their ghoulish gourds in a large bin located at the store on the MSU campus.
“We collect about 10,000 pounds every single year; this is a program we’ve been doing for many years now,” Chris adds.
