ORONO, Maine (WABI) -After the Department of Interior announced plans to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil and gas development, Mainers are calling on members of congress to protect the land.
Over at UMaine in Orono advocates and students set up an area to discuss the severity of arctic drilling.
The environmental organizer for Alaska Wilderness League has worked with students on campus in order to get the word out that this could potentially be harmful to the already fragile ecosystem.
Advocates say seismic testing and other technology that could be used could possibly crush polar bear dens, destroy land and disrupt wildlife for generations to come.
