ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has arrested a man in connection with the university’s shootings nearly four weeks ago.
Jamarion Jabari Jones, 19, of Abbeville County, is charged with carrying a weapon on school property.
Two shootings occurred the evening of Oct. 4. One woman, 19-year-old Jaliyah Butler, was killed in one of the shootings and a man was injured in the second shooting. SLED agents believe the shootings are connected.
The affidavit stated that Jones had a gun stored in a bookbag while on campus that night. SLED agents reviewed the campus’s footage from Hugine Suites and it showed him carrying a gun around.
Jones told SLED agents that he was the person who the person shown with a gun on the surveilance footage.
