GREENSBORO, N.C. — The USDA funds SNAP —the pause on funding we've been talking about. The USDA also funds free and reduced lunch programs at public schools.
"Hungry kids are gonna have a hard time learning, and the people who work with those hungry kids are going to have a hard time doing our jobs. Many schools are places where, for kids, it is the primary food source for kids in our communities, right?' said Bryan Proffitt, NCAE Vice President.
Nearly a million North Carolina public school students are eligible for free or reduced lunch, which is 60% of the student population in our state.
For context, right here at home, 33,000 Guilford County students are directly impacted because they are on SNAP, but students at 111 of Guilford County schools are part of the Community Eligibilit
