HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) - The man convicted of shooting and killing Wayne County Deputy Sean Riley in 2021 is once again attempting to withdraw his guilty plea.
Officials at the Clinton County Courthouse have confirmed to Eyewitness News that Ray Tate attempted to file a motion to withdraw his guilty plea. However, it was determined that the motion was insufficient, and an amended motion would need to be filed from Tate.
Tate previously claimed he was not mentally competent and he was threatened with the loss of phone, mail, visitor, and other privileges if he did not plead guilty. A judge ruled during an earlier attempt to throw out the plea that Tate was aware of what he was doing when he entered a guilty plea.
