GOSHEN TWP., Ohio (WKBN) - Voters served by the Goshen Police District in western Mahoning County will notice a levy on the November Election ballot next week.
The department covers both Goshen and Green Townships, as well as providing resource officers for West Branch Schools. It's been operating on a permanent 5.7 mil tax levy, first passed almost twenty years ago. Chief John Calko said the department needs to replace that issue with one that includes current property values.
"Don't get me wrong, I don't like to pay more taxes either. Nobody does, but we also need police departments. We need EMS. We need medical. We need fire, and if we can't get the elvy up to today's standards, we're going to eventually lose those services," Calko said.
