The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is determined to increase the number of Test matches for women and introduce more multi-day competitions at the domestic level, secretary Devajit Saikia said on Friday.

Speaking after India’s stunning semi-final victory over Australia in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, Saikia praised the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team for its record-breaking chase and said the growing popularity of the women’s game in India is evident in the surge of young fans donning jerseys with names like “Mandhana” and “Harmanpreet.”

Asked if the BCCI plans to revisit the women’s calendar while drafting the next Future Tours Programme (FTP) to include more red-ball fixtures, Saikia sounded optimistic.

“Basically, women are playing more white-ball cricket — T20Is and ODIs.
