COLUMBIA — Crews stationed at Boone County Fire Protection District Station 8 are set to move into a new firehouse next week.
After the new building hit its 13th month of construction, final details were installed this week. Resident firefighters and equipment will begin moving in from the old Station 8 next week. The two buildings are located feet apart from each other on Route K south of Columbia.
On Monday, the fitness equipment and washer and dryer for gear at the old station will be moved to the new station. Gale Blomenkamp, assistant fire chief for the Fire District, said the Fire District aims to move firefighters into the station on Tuesday or Wednesday.
The main difference between the new and old building is the contamination zone separating where used gear and residents live.
