MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - As the holidays approach and families continue to feel the strain of the ongoing government shutdown, the Medina County Park District is stepping up to help those in need.

The district has launched a month-long food drive to support local residents facing challenges with food access as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits remain affected.

“During the holiday time of year, you see that need a little more,” said Deputy Director Ken Stray.

Stray said the effort began as an internal project but quickly expanded as the community’s need became more apparent.

“It kind of expanded because of current events and the potential difficulty of food access,” Stray said.
