A federal judge in Rhode Island on Friday ordered the Trump administration to use emergency funding to pay for the nation’s low-income food program, known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program , or SNAP, court records show.
U.S. District Court Judge John J. McConnell issued the ruling from the bench on Friday, records show.
“There is no doubt that the … contingency funds are appropriated funds that are without a doubt necessary to carry out the program’s operation,” he said, according to CNN . “The shutdown of the government through funding doesn’t do away with SNAP, it just does away with the funding of it.”
