SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The current federal government shutdown is not the first, and yet SNAP funds are more of a focal point than in previous shutdowns.
During previous government shutdowns, some of the same conversations took place regarding national park closures, federal offices closing, and a delay in paychecks for federal workers. But SNAP funding is a hot topic this time.
The nonprofit Food Research and Action Center has watched how previous shutdowns have affected those in need.
A spokesperson said it was the forward thinking of previous USDA directors and their proactive measures that made a difference.
