PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- With daylight saving time happening Sunday, Nov. 2, the American Red Cross encourages homeowners to test their smoke alarms.
They suggest that when you turn your clocks it's the perfect time to make sure your devices are working.
It's recommended to replace smoke alarms that are ten years or older because the sensors can become less sensitive over time.
When testing, the Red Cross recommends practicing a two-minute home fire escape plan.
They say to include at least two ways to get out of every room and select a meeting spot at a safe distance away from your home.
