Teachers unionized with the Minneapolis Federation of Educators (MFE) have filed their official intent to strike notice with the Bureau of Mediation Services.
The union and Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) have been negotiating new contracts for teachers, educational support professionals, and adult educators since April. The two sides entered mediation in August.
With the notice filed on Friday, the union says it could strike as early as Tuesday, Nov. 11. However, it has not declared a strike date.
“We know there is still plenty of time to negotiate a strong contract that recognizes the district’s financial situation while making investments that will give students the schools they need to thrive and bring families back to MPS,” says Marcia Howard, president of MFE's teacher chapter.
