WHITEHALL, Ohio — Millions of Americans who rely on food assistance may be getting a lifeline after two federal judges ruled Friday that the Trump administration must continue issuing benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, better known as SNAP, during the ongoing government shutdown.

Stacey Santurello of Whitehall is one of 42 million Americans — about one in eight — who depend on the program.

“In my mind, I’m like, okay, where’s our next meal gonna come from next month?”

With SNAP payments halted as part of the shutdown, Santurello says families like hers are left wondering how to keep food on the table.

“They’re going to have to choose between bills, a roof over their head or food in their stomachs.”
