PLAINS TWP. — After a sluggish first quarter, Wilkes-Barre Area scored six touchdowns on its following seven possessions and came away with a 46-20 win over Hazleton Area Friday night at Wolfpack Stadium in the District 2/4 Class 6A semifinals.
With the win, Wilkes-Barre Area (7-4) will host Williamsport for the championship next week in a rematch of the teams’ regular season finale, won by the Millionaires.
Hazleton Area’s season comes to a close after its second loss to the Wolfpack.
“We know Hazleton, they know us, it’s always a challenge to play a team a second time. Hazleton has some really good athletes and we knew that and they’re a young team and they’re going to bounce back,” Wilkes-Barre Area coach Ciro Cinti said.
