CHERRY HILL — Toms River North is a three-time defending state champion, but unlike the previous three seasons, this year’s edition doesn’t have the ability to steamroll opponents.Yet the Mariners haven’t forgotten how to win big games.
With a less than dominating crew, coach Dave Oizerowitz decided that in order to take down an unbeaten Cherry Hill East team, he would have to put the ball in Cole Garrison’s hands and allow him to run the attack, and we do emphasize the word run.
Garrison ran for one touchdown and had a back-breaking 84-yard kickoff return for another touchdown as fifth seeded Toms River North beat No. 4 seeded Cherry Hill East, 22-14 in a South Jersey Group 5 quarterfinal.
Toms River North (5-5) will visit top seeded Atlantic City in next Friday’s semifinal. Cherry Hil
