Desert locals should prepare their sweet tooths for the ultimate sugary escape this weekend — and don't feelt guilty indulging, because your purchases go to an integral cause.

The inaugural Scoop Palm Springs Ice Cream Festival is set for noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, in Palm Springs' Downtown Park. The event is organized by a chapter of Scoop San Diego, a nonprofit that hosts an annual ice cream and gelato festival in the beach city to fundraise for a local nonprofit.

Scoop Palm Springs will be donating proceeds to the LGBTQ Center of the Desert's Community Food Bank, which provides free nutritious food to more than 350 families each week, as well as other services. There will also be a food drive at the festival.
