Syracuse, N.Y. — Joe Filardi played in his first career college football game Friday, earning the start over redshirt sophomore Rickie Collins and fellow true freshman Luke Carney.
Filardi completed four of his 18 pass attempts for 39 yards and lost a fumble that resulted in a 21-yard touchdown for North Carolina on its ensuing possession in a 27-10 win.
With three games remaining, it’s clear Syracuse (3-6, 1-5 ACC) doesn’t have a quarterback and most likely won’t make a bowl game. But Syracuse has three games remaining this season, and someone has to be under center.
“Quarterback’s definitely a tough position,” Filardi said. “And just football in general. I mean, a lot of things kind of have to be put together to have a successful offense. I just think we’ve got to get better as a unit
