MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — Three people were hospitalized after a crash that police believe was the product of impairment on Saturday morning.

At about 12:30 a.m., first responders were dispatched to a neighborhood near Signal Butte Road and Guadalupe Road for reports of a crash, according to the Mesa Police Department.

There were five people inside an off-road vehicle traveling on Santa Rita Circle when the driver reportedly failed to turn, hit a curb and a light pole, and flipped over.

One of the passengers was seriously hurt, but is expected to survive. The two other people who were hospitalized have non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the driver was arrested for extreme DUI and aggravated assault. That person has not yet been identified.

The investigation is still ongoing.
