Des Moines, Iowa (KCCI) - As the federal shutdown continues, the center of the standoff is a debate over enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies that help lower monthly insurance costs for people who get their coverage from the marketplace, KCCI reports.

The enhanced premium tax credits are set to expire at the end of the year, which is concerning for people preparing for the Affordable Care Act marketplace open enrollment on Nov. 1.

Every year before open enrollment, insurance advisor Janis Van Ahn hosts a webinar .

“Typically, we have about 60 or 70 who will sign up or show up,” said Van Ahn, who owns Health Insurance Advisor in the metro area.

However, this year, Van Ahn said it’s different.
